I have been hunting most of my life. As soon as I could walk, dad took me into woods of Northern Michigan. He would trudge through knee deep snow breaking trail for me and pulling me up over downfalls half the day. Their I learned all manner of small Game, fishing, whitetail and basic camping. At the age of 13 through 20 I spent my summer months with a family friend in Jackson Hole WYO. learning all manner of Mountain man way's. "still learning thanks Steve". At the age of 22 started on the big hunts for Elk in Colorado. I live for that hunt in the high country. On horse and on foot we make are way to camp some 7 miles in often for more than one season. My commitment to camp can never be broken and is embedded into my soul and heritage.

My Mentors are by far my Father and Uncle. Two of the most extreme hunters I know. just Elk alone they have taken combined some 65 plus bulls and still doing it today! My uncle is 75 and my Dad is 71 its rare that a mountain man makes it up there that long. Are Camp is at 10,000 feet and consist of a 20 man wall tent " fits about seven with gear and stove wood pile" a big game pole, food lift in a spruce " to keep bears from getting are supplies" and so on. We do all the work no guides no hired help. Both men served in the military. My uncle was a Field Geologist during the 50's threw the 80's and has been in the most remote spots on the world doing exploration work. Some times he would be in a tent for more then three or four months at a time. " if your in the wilderness this is the guy you want with you" He is humble and a colorful, always good for a laugh and one who will never let camp down. My Father is much the same but he is a Elkoholic Bad . He is a true master on elk behavior and how to hunt them. His character is his strongest attribute His strength is unreal ,he can still dog most twenty year olds " he wont admit it". Both men together set the stage for a Honorable camp.

My only mission these day's is to preserve the hunt for them . they have given me a life time of hunts and guidance to draw on. As my Dad broke trail for me when I was a boy I shall do for him.

We members of the melrose camp have sworn to pass on what we have been taught and preserve our camp way's for the next generation.

Yeah man I would like to see the WV design.

Things have been goin pretty good I guess. Took a couple of Does with the Bow and a small non-typical 7pt the first day of Rifle Season, but the big Buck is still eluding me so far. Next week is Muzzleloader Season so hopefully the Big Boy slips up then.

Hey, thanks for responding to my blog. I know this made a great impact on him. When I took him to the doctor on Monday, I had to hit the hooks when someone stopped suddenly in front of me and the poor kid went into tears on me. On a happier note, I got my first deer in Kentucky over Thanksgiving weekend! (Yes, I got an Elk before a deer) Dropped him where he stood @40 yrds. It was video perfect except if I had the camera, he wouldn't have showed up! TTYL   Tina

Hey stew, haven't talked since our hunts.  back to next years couintdown, that's all we can do. I saw a special on mushroom hunting last night and thought of you.

Have you ever encountered guys that announce antler scores but have never done it before?  It cracks me up.  Everyone who has seen my 2007 bull said its almost 300 - which of course got me pumped. I did the scoring, in the real world with deductions the score is 268...  not bad but it makes me wonder when people announce the scores of animals - I realized not many guys have gone through the actual scoring process to know what you are looking for.

What do you think of our pics? not shabby huh?
